National Leadership

Seattle/King County is a pilot site in the four-year Sparking Connections initiative sponsored by Families and Work Institute www.familiesandwork.org/sparking/home.htm. Our participation continues to spark connections among developing programs that support family, friend and neighbor caregivers across the nation. The 2004 annual Sparking Connections conference was held in Seattle and we assisted in planning and facilitating the 2005 conference in Brownsville, Texas. The Families and Work Institute has contracted with CCR to assist in writing the Sparking Connections Summary Report.

As the coordinator of the Family, Friend and Neighbor Project in Seattle/King County, CCR is recognized as a leader in the field. We are frequently invited to contribute to others’ learning by sharing our innovative, cutting edge approach to this complex work. Project staff contributed to Bank Street College’s Institute for a Continuum of Child Care research and report http://www.bankstreet.edu/gems/ICCC/OPS15.pdf. We helped set the agenda and provided an overview of our regional strategic plan and policy approach for the SmartStart 2006 pre-conference session on family, friend and neighbor care. CCR staff presented to Enhanced Home Visiting Pilot program participants at the 2006 Early Head Start Zero to Three Institute. Most recently, we have been invited to present our program strategies at the upcoming (Fall 2006) National Association of Family, Friend and Neighbor Child Care conference in Atlanta.
