Community Awareness
We are focused on calling attention to the
important role played by extended family and friend caregivers in
children’s healthy growth and development. We share information and the
results of our work with others working in child and family serving
organizations and systems. We have shared information about family,
friend, and neighbor care through presentations and/or representation at
Washington Learns - Early Learning Council, Family Support Washington,
Making Connections, Public Health Seattle-King County, City of Seattle
Family Centers, Families and Children Early Support (FACES), and
regional service providers’ meetings.
Examples of the impact of our community awareness work include:
• Inclusion of family, friend and neighbor caregivers in King County
Executive Ron Sims’ Proclamation designating May 12, 2006 as Child Care
Providers Appreciation Day
• Creation of a Family, Friend and Neighbor Leaders Group convened by
Ron Rabin of the Kirlin Foundation
www.kirlinfoundation.org.
• Acknowledgement of the family, friend and neighbor caregivers by the
Washington Learns Early Learning Council
• Partnership with CHILD Profile to deliver child development
information to family, friends and neighbors caring for children through
the Washington State Working Connections Child Care Subsidy Program
