Family,
friend and neighbor (FFN) caregivers have an important role in
contributing to the healthy development, school readiness and school
success of children. Information for this booklet has been compiled from

Support for the Care of Children By Family,
Friend and Neighbor Caregivers Summary Report
During
2004, six community-based organizations in King County were engaged
under the auspices of the SOAR Opportunity Fund (formerly Project Lift
Off Opportunity Fund) in projects developed to intentionally support
quality in the care of children by family, friends, and neighbors (FFN).
These organizations documented several aspects of these projects for the
benefit of policymakers, funders, and others that might have an interest
in the development and/or replication of effective supports for quality
in FFN care. This report, which was compiled and edited by Child Care
Resources, is a result of that documentation.

Guide to Early Learning Opportunities in King County
More
and more we know that all children learn from the moment they are born.
While parents, with help from family and friends, are children’s first
and best teachers, many parents work or are in school during their
children’s early years. Others want help with their children’s early
learning. For this reason many parents look for individuals or programs
to care for and support learning of their children. This guide is
intended to help parents who live in King County more easily access
early learning programs for their children. It includes many resources
for programs and financial assistance.

Child Care Facility Planning Manual
Child
Care Center licensing requires a great deal of time and planning. The
licensing process can take up to a year. The center building must meet
local zoning, fire and health department regulations. This manual is
intended as a starting place and an overview of the considerations and
regulations you must address in your planning and design work. (Some
preschool programs which operate a restricted part-time schedule may be
exempt from licensing but must have the required exemption documents
from DSHS.)
